No Improvement But Some Achievement

This post is about some amazingly exciting news!!! Since I started this blog, I haven't taken such a long time without writing a post, but I have had such a busy time these past few months that I just didn't have any time to sit down and write. But, even though I'm still busy, I thought I'd share with those who follow the blog some of the things I've been busy doing.

First, when it comes to training, I haven't done much at all! I mean, apart from random days of training here and there, I can't think of a whole two week period where I actually was able to do all the sessions I had to do. This, of course, resulted in me getting out of shape big time! My overall fitness seems to be ok, and my speed also seems to have not gone down much, but my plan had a target for this period that I'm nowhere near. I can't really pretend that I'm going to make up for it and that by the race season I'll be back on track with regards to my previous targets, because it's just not realistic. But, I'll do my best all the same.

There is very good reason, though, as to why I haven't been able to train as much as I would have like to. Simply, I have been working tirelessly on two big triathlon-related projects that are now just starting to take shape, and I can hopefully start sharing more details on in the next couple of weeks. The first project is just a triathlon gear distribution company, distributing tri brands in the Middle East. So, watch this space for some cool offers and discounts soon!

The second project, which is the big one, is a professional triathlon team! There are way too many details that had to be sorted out in order for this project to come to fruition, and now we're very nearly there. The team will have 4 amazing world-class triathletes, covering short, middle and long distances. They are extremely well known names to anyone following triathlon, especially in the Middle East! I can't wait to share the names with everyone very soon!

Alongside the professional team, we shall be fully sponsoring young talents from the Middle East and North Africa, taking care of them to try and develop them into future world champions. These young athletes, in addition to gear, travel and training support, will have the advantage of being mentored by the pros in the team, getting the chance to train with them from time to time, and learning lessons from their vast experience.

The team will also run training programmes in certain areas in the Middle East that possibly cannot afford such an expensive sport, to try and make this exciting sport accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of their financial capabilities. We have a very long-term vision to grow the triathlon participation in our region over the next few years through the team, and our pros are as excited as us about this prospect as well.

The team will be mainly sponsored by my friend, Fahad Khater, through his company, Alameda Holding, which owns and operates several large health care projects, and by myself, partly through the new distribution company I just mentioned above. Together with our pro triathletes, we are very keen to promote a healthy lifestyle, raise awareness of the sport of triathlon in the region, and provide proper role models for young people, through showing them how the hard work and persistence of our pro athletes, and not just talent or privileges, have got them to be on top of the world.

Of course, I cannot forget amateur triathletes, such as myself, who are eager to improve and go forward in the sport! So, we shall also be offering through the team the opportunity for amateurs (aka age-groupers) to train alongside the pros, as well as get some other benefits such as top kit and great discounts on gear!

There are so many details that I would love to share with everyone, but we'll do so over the next few weeks, as every step needs to take a specific official shape before we can share it (otherwise we'll have some very upset lawyers)!

So, in the grand scheme of things, I shouldn't really be beating myself up too much now if I can't achieve the 5 hour mark for a half distance by May, since I haven't been exactly wasting my time or indulging in meaningless meals (well, I might have enjoyed a couple more meals than I should) :) And, although I haven't been getting any fitter, I feel like I have, so far, achieved quite a bit.

From now on, I'll try to balance the two and do my best to get back into training properly!

Please, wish us luck, and keep up your virtual support! You can't imagine how much it drives us forward! Thanks!
